This electron micrograph shows multiple Birbeck granules one of which shows a rod like structure with a central linear density and cross striations with a clear bulbous expansion (vesicle) at one end. Their appearance resembles that of a tennis racket. Birbeck granules are specific for Langerhans cells. Contributed by Philip Kane, MD. |
